Swedish sports presenter Frida Nordstrand travels to Kiev for a TV report. An unusual interview awaits her there.

This Thursday, Sweden and Ukraine meet in the World Cup playoffs. For this occasion, the Swedish Viaplay presenter Frida Nordstrand traveled to Ukraine in advance. There she visited a team of war-disabled soldiers and a soccer academy where children and young people can escape everyday life for a short time. Encounters that moved her.

During the trip she also met Ukrainian football icon Andriy Shevchenko, now president of the national football association. In the middle of the interview in Kyiv, the air alarm suddenly sounded. “I thought, ‘Oh God, should we really keep going?'” Nordstrand recalled. The conversation continued nonetheless. “It felt absurd that he just took a quick look at his press secretaries, who quickly checked this app that everyone has and realized that it was far away, that everything was quiet,” said the TV presenter.

She herself felt uncomfortable for a moment: “But of course I was stressed for a short time. But then I thought to myself: If there is a place where you should be, then maybe with Shevchenko. That gave me a feeling of security.”

The game between Sweden and Ukraine in the World Cup playoffs will kick off this Thursday at 8:45 p.m. t-online reports in the live ticker.
