The FC Bayern Munich footballers can dream of reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. Bayern narrowly won the first leg at Manchester United – that was also due to Pernille Harder.
In an intense and high-class duel with Manchester United, FC Bayern secured a good starting position in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Led by an outstanding Pernille Harder, who scored early and followed up later, the Munich team won 3:2 (1:1) in an even game. Despite two equalizers from England, Bayern kept their nerve and decided the game late through Momoko Tanikawa.
Lightning start by Harder
FC Bayern got off to a real dream start. With a beautiful pass, Arianna Caruso sent Pernille Harder in the 2nd minute. The striker left United defender Maya Le Tissier behind and confidently scored in the bottom right corner.
Balanced game at the top level
The course of the game reflected that both teams were in excellent form and it was a balanced and high-quality game. Nevertheless: In the league phase, Lea Schüller’s new team lost 5-2 against VfL Wolfsburg, who the Munich team defeated 4-1 at the end of February.
Penalty brings United back
In the 22nd minute, the former Munich player had plenty of space in the penalty area and crossed close to the five-pointer, but the ball got caught on the arm of Glódís Viggósdóttir. Le Tissier converted the penalty relatively weakly to make it 1-1.
Harder strikes again
In the second half it remained an even game. Manchester United started better, but didn’t necessarily get in front of the goal. Instead, substitute Momoko Tanikawa sent Harder in front of the goal with a long ball in the 71st minute. The Dane remained calm again and scored for the seventh time in her seventh Champions League game of the season.
“If you’re a big fan of a club as a child, it’s a big dream to play in the stadium there. I’m really looking forward to playing at Old Trafford and I’m very happy to be doing it with Bayern Munich,” said the 33-year-old, who made her dream come true with two goals.
Open exchange of blows in the final phase
Five minutes later the “Red Devils” equalized again. After a corner, Hanna prevailed in the aerial duel and scored with a touchdown. But the Munich team has only failed to win three games across all competitions this season and there shouldn’t be a fourth one this evening.
Strong starting position for the second leg
In the 84th minute, FCB attacked from the left, Franziska Kett passed back to Tanikawa in the penalty area and the newly crowned Asian Cup winner scored with precision to make the final score 3-2. Afterwards, United found no gap in Bayern’s defense. They have created a good starting position in this quarter-final for the second leg.
