Pretty Lethal – dancers in hell – on Prime Video – is a bizarre horror with an all-female cast. He guides himUma Thurman (as vengeful dark lady) and 5 dancers ended up in a nightmare venue. This is an enjoyable collage that it borrows stylistic elements from teen movies and echoes of Kill Bill – up to the dazzling pulp of Spring Breakers by Harmony Korine. The result, which can be summarized as “even the dancers, in their own small way, get pissed off”, is fun, but not always up to the level of the individual parts.

A small group of classical dancers he is travelling for Europe to perform at the Budapest International Gala. Bones (Maddie Ziegler) is the most talented and impetuous. Chloe (Millicent Simmons) is deaf and dumb, and her sister Zoe (Iris Apatow) always tries to help her.
Grace (Avantika Vandanapu) is the sweetest and most absent-minded, while the rich Princess (Lana Condor) is capricious and spoiled. There are always arguments and rivalries between them. Accompanying the 5 is Miss Thorna (Lydia Leonard), the teacher. Due to an unexpected event with their flight, they must continue their journey on a minibus in the middle of the Hungarian forest.
The rudimentary vehicle breaks down in one of the most isolated places and the girls decide to continue on foot into the dense woods. After a long walk they find themselves in front of an ancient villa which, within it, hides a very particular place. It’s about the Thermokin, a theater café very elegant and sinister, frequented only by strange and ambiguous characters.
The Americans they ask the owner for assistance, the mysterious Devora Kasimer (Uma Thurman), who everyone says was a very talented former classical dancer. One of the customers, a certain Pasha (Tamás Szabó Sipos) harasses Miss Thorne. The woman reacts with a knee and he shoots her. The girls they want to call the police and report the murderer but they are captured, drugged and locked up in a sort of isolation cell.
When Grace, still dazed by drugs, is about to be raped by Osip (Miklós Béres), Devora’s right-hand man, Bones kills him with a scissors. After a moment of confusion, they gather courage and try to escape.

The review of Pretty Lethal
As written above, Pretty Lethal it’s a fun pastiche of genres which, unfortunately, shows several flaws at times. Vicky Jewson (director) floods the screen with B Movie clichés: an isolated house in the middle of nowhere, young prey lost in a forest, a vengeful dark lady, crazy serial killers popping up from everywhere.
A game that opens in a promising way with an effective phrase. An alarm bell raised to the spectators by the bus driver who, seeing the group moving away into the forest, crypticly exclaims: «May the wolves have mercy on you». A false prayer that soon it gets lost in useless subplots, flattening itself to the point of repetitiveness.
The killing of Miss Thorne is little more than a pretext to start the hunt for the dancers, as well as Devora’s vengeful ploy, which appears to have arisen almost by chance. Even the sketchy rivalry between the 5 protagonists is an excuse to arrive at the collective battle for survival. Running at full capacity and therefore to make the film really good it is the theme of dance as a deadly weapon.

The cliché that sees delicate bodies and impressionable souls in dancers is joyfully overturned without visual excess. Maddie Ziegler carves out a nice role in the castseen in West Side Story by Steven Spielberg. Her Bones initially appears as the undisputed protagonist and leader of the 5 dancers. Unexpectedly, to steal the show and it is to leave its mark Lana Condor’s Princess (X-Men: Apocalypse). Spoiled, simpering and very capricious, manages to unexpectedly strike the funniest and most hilarious note of the entire film.

Pasha is the son of a big and influential criminal, called the Butcher, who has been asking Devora for money for many years in exchange for protection. Although she has a liking for the 5 Americans, who remind her of her youth, the woman can do nothing but kill the dangerous witnesses of the crime.
To get rid of them, he calls a mysterious doctor who has the task of making the bodies of future victims unidentifiable. However, he did not come to terms with the survival instinct and the physical and emotional strength not of fragile dancers but of real athletes. Although his men try to capture them, the girls use dance moves to surprise their enemiesthey insert razor blades into the tips of their shoes to hurt them. The bad guys seem to have the upper hand.
Devora has Bones tied to a chair and, intent on putting on make-up, he tells her what he would have as a child had to debut on stage as the Sugar Plum Fairy, character of The Nutcracker.
