Selina Grotian looks back on her season. The German biathlete takes a deep look.
German biathlete Selina Grotian described the past season as a year with ups and downs in an Instagram post. In the emotional statement, she looks back on a year “characterized by a lot of doubt” in which “a few tears were shed.”
The 25/26 season was anything but good for the 21-year-old. She was set back by a corona infection early in the winter. This caused a long break from sports, accompanied by the “fear of starting again too early,” as Grotian writes. Despite this setback, she managed to make her “childhood dream” come true and qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“But even then I couldn’t achieve the desired performance. My training performance at the shooting range was really good, but unfortunately it just didn’t work out in the competition,” wrote Grotian. She also lacked a bit of punch on the cross-country ski trail, as the mountain air put more strain on her than before. In the three races in which she competed, she achieved placings 52, 55 and 42. “The disappointment after my races at the Olympics was very big,” said Grotian.
At the end of the season, however, she was able to deliver “good partial performances” again and could now “take some self-confidence with her into the off-season.” So it’s time for them to gather strength and look forward to the next season with “full confidence and motivation”.
