Disc without pressure
With Julia Scheib (5), the Austrians already have the little crystal ball. And yet she will want to continue her series. Because when Scheib finished in the giant slalom this season, she always ended up on the podium. And almost always at the top. Only at the Olympic Games did this series suffer a flaw. There she only ended up in fifth place. Stephanie Brunner and Nina Astner are also there. After Scheib, you are also the best Austrian riders in the giant slalom. However, Brunner (18) is still waiting for a place in the top ten. And Nina Astner was not yet placed in the upper section this winter either. However, she has had to struggle with setbacks in the past and will be happy that she was able to compete so consistently this season.

German trio included
There has never been a day of competition at the World Cup final where no German athlete was on the podium. That could be a good sign for today if the DSV starts the competition with three starters. However, the giant slalom is also the discipline in which the German starters are having the most difficulty at the moment. Lena Dürr will start with number 14. However, her best result of sixth place was already in November. After that, Dürr had a hard time. At the Olympic giant slalom in Cortina she made another big leap forward and ended up in ninth place. We have already talked about Emma Aicher’s (16) chances. Regardless of today’s outcome, the young alpine all-rounder can and will be more than satisfied with her season. Compared to last season, she has already more than doubled her total World Cup points. Kira Weidle-Winkelmann (27) was the third member of the group to sneak onto the start list today. The speed specialist would like to do a lap in the more technical discipline at the end of the winter. Weidle-Winkelmann has actually not completed a single giant slalom in the World Cup in her entire career. So today there is not only a big finale, but also a premiere.

Will Shiffrin get the big scoop?
And this finale has it all again. Although the decision for the small ball in the giant slalom has already been made and Julia Scheib secured the discipline ranking, the overall World Cup is still open. With Mikaela Shiffrin and Emma Aicher, two athletes are still in the running for the coveted trophy. But the truth is also: If Aicher wants to shoot the thing today, she’ll need a miracle. The high-flyer from the USA is currently leading by 85 points. This means that she can only take this rating away from herself. She would have to miss out a lot and Aicher would need a place near the front. So far, with the exception of fourth place in Åre almost two weeks ago, she hasn’t really cracked the giant slalom yet.
