Joachim Löw once helped Joshua Kimmich make his DFB debut. His former protégé is now a captain. He also reveals which Bayern professional he would bet on at the World Cup.
Former national coach Joachim Löw has clearly positioned himself in the debate about Joshua Kimmich’s position in the national team. “At the moment I would say: Since we have enough players in central midfield who have the level to get to the top, Joshua is in the right position on the right,” the 66-year-old told “Sport Bild”. “We have a hard time with right-backs.”
Kimmich started under him as a right-back, and DFB coach Julian Nagelsmann is also planning on using him as a right-back. At FC Bayern, however, Kimmich plays as a midfielder. “I believe that Joshua is currently playing at a world-class level in each of the two positions,” said Löw.
Löw also commented on the nomination of Leon Goretzka, who currently does not have a regular place at FC Bayern. “I understand his nomination. Leon is good, he is a player from whom you can expect stability,” he said. “That’s okay, I think that’s enough. And perhaps the most important thing: Leon is reliable. (Aleksandar, note) Pavlovic is also very good, no question about it. And especially at Bayern you need players who can then be replaced equally. I would certainly rely on Leon at the World Cup, absolutely.”
