Zach Wilson has found a new job in the NFL.

Quarterback Zach Wilson has joined the New Orleans Saints for the coming season. He has signed a one-year contract, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Wilson will therefore act as a backup to Tyler Shough, who won the starting job as a second-round pick last year in a duel with Spencer Rattler. He is also still in the Saints squad.

With this signing, the Saints made good on an announcement made by head coach Kellen Moore, who announced at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis at the end of February that the team wanted to sign one or two more quarterbacks with a view to the team’s offseason program.

Wilson established as backup

Wilson last played for the Miami Dolphins, where he only played sporadically. He came to Florida as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup, but ultimately only made four appearances. He threw 6/11 for 32 yards. When Tagovailoa was relegated to the bench in Week 16, rookie Quinn Ewers took over instead and ended the Dolphins’ season.

Wilson was originally the second overall pick of the New York Jets in the 2021 draft, but disappointed across the board and only managed 6,325 yards with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in five seasons. He also only completed 57 percent of his passes. After three years in New York, those in charge there already pulled the ripcord and gave the former BYU quarterback to the Denver Broncos, where he served as Bo Nix’s backup in his rookie season in 2024, but was not used at all.

The Saints, meanwhile, made a decent final spurt in Moore’s first season, in which Shough took over as starter in Week 9, winning four of their last five games, so that the season ended in a mannerly manner with a 6-11 record after a weak start.
