Mohamed Salah was a face of Liverpool FC for years. Now the Egyptian is leaving the traditional English club.
In the summer of 2017, Mohamed Salah moved to Liverpool FC, where in nine years he developed into a club legend and one of the most feared offensive players in the world. They will part ways in the summer of 2026, as the club announced on Tuesday evening.
Just a year ago, Salah extended his contract by two years after much back and forth. Liverpool and the superstar have now agreed to end their collaboration after the current season.
The Egyptian published a video on Instagram in which he addressed the fans and looked back on his nine years at the traditional English club. “I will always be a part of you. This club will always be my home,” he says in the emotional clip.
“Liverpool is more than a football club, I can’t put it into words,” he said. “We celebrated great victories together, won many trophies and always fought for each other.”
Salah moved from AS Roma to Liverpool FC in the summer of 2017 and has since won the Premier League twice and the Champions League once with the English team. He was always one of the most important players in the team. In 435 competitive games he scored 255 goals and prepared 122 more. He will leave the “Reds” as the third best goalscorer in the club’s history.
It remains unclear whether the 33-year-old Salah will continue his career elsewhere in the summer. When his contract extension dragged on for several months in the preseason, there was speculation, among other things, about a move to Saudi Arabia.
