AZ missed out on the prize last year, after an insane defeat against Go Ahead Eagles. The Alkmaar dream then shattered after a decisive penalty shootout.
This year, fans are no longer allowed to travel to Rotterdam by their own bus. It’s a shame, says Jos: “We are now going by bus from AZ. That’s a shame, but don’t worry. We’ll make a nice effort anyway.”
Difficult to reach the final
While one fan is mainly looking forward to the party and the spectacle, the other looks at AZ’s chances with mixed feelings.
Truus Hoogland, a loyal supporter for years, had difficulty watching her club’s game in recent weeks. “It’s so changeable. After Sparta Prague and before that against FC Twente, I was really looking forward to it again. But on Sunday I was watching and I thought: it looks like an amateur team. I thought it was so bad.”
She even dropped out during that AZ match. “Halfway through I thought: what am I looking at? I’d rather pick up a book.”
