Jorginho publicly criticizes Chappell Roan after security aggressively confronted his 11-year-old stepdaughter at Lollapalooza – now the singer is reacting.
Another scandal with her fans is brewing at Chappell Roan. This time, a man from the singer’s security team is said to have disrespected an eleven-year-old child. The footballer Jorginho, who plays for the Italian national team and Rios Flamengo, posted a statement on Instagram. The girl was his stepdaughter.
His wife Catherine Harding – known as a singer as Cat Cavelli – and stepdaughter from Harding’s previous relationship with actor Jude Law, happened to be at the same hotel as Chappell Roan. All three had traveled to São Paulo for Lollapalooza; Chappell Roan performed there on Saturday evening.
Jorginho describes the incident
Jorginho wrote on Instagram that Harding and her daughter were confronted by Roan’s security guards. The eleven-year-old is said to have walked past the artist’s table at breakfast, smiled at Chappell Roan, but did not speak to her. And then this happened: “A large security guard came to their table while they were eating breakfast and spoke to both my wife and my daughter in an extremely aggressive manner. He told her not to let my daughter ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.” To be honest, I don’t know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is sitting there can be considered harassment. The security even said he would file a complaint against them at the hotel while my 11-year-old daughter sat there and cried,” the footballer said.
He addressed the singer directly: “Without your fans, you would be nothing. And to the fans: She doesn’t deserve your affection.” He was referring to the scandal in Paris in which Chappell Roan took a video of her fans and paparazzi and shouted at them to leave her alone.
Viral post – Mayor of Rio intervenes
The Instagram post went viral. Even the mayor of Rio de Janeiro responded to Jorginho’s post and wrote that he no longer wanted to see Chappell Roan perform in his city.
Chappell Roan’s statement
At her festival appearance, Chappell Roan did not comment on the incident and even thanked her security company. Shortly afterwards, however, she also posted a statement. In it she stated that the security guard was not part of her personal security staff. “I didn’t see a woman or a child at all. Nobody came to me. Nobody harassed me… I didn’t ask the security guard to go up and talk to that mother and child. They didn’t come to me. They didn’t do anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume that someone has bad intentions without having any reason for it because nothing happened at all. I don’t hate people who are fans of my music. I don’t hate children. That’s crazy.”
She also apologized to those affected: “And I’m sorry for the mother and the child that someone just assumed that you would do something. And that it made you feel uncomfortable. That makes me really sad. You don’t deserve that.”
Harding’s skeptical reaction
Catherine Harding responded skeptically and stated that the security guard was definitely not from the hotel. She still hopes that the initiative didn’t come from Roan, because her daughter is a big fan and has long wanted the tickets for the festival for her birthday.
