FC Bayern continues to shoot, as does VfB Stuttgart, and with BVB’s shock win against HSV there is a novelty: the 27th matchday of the 2025/26 season of the German Bundesliga is history – and had a lot to offer.
The end of the 27th matchday was once again tough: VfB Stuttgart swept FC Augsburg from the pitch 5-2 and thus played a major role in the fact that 40 or more goals were scored on a Bundesliga matchday for the first time since the 9th matchday of the 2023/24 season. Incidentally, 15 goals were scored on the last matchday, the fewest of the season.
Speaking of VfB Stuttgart’s 5-2 win: The Swabians also scored in the 18th Bundesliga game away from home in a row and thus equaled their club record.
With two goals, Deniz Undav was the man of the evening for the Swabians. At the same time, the German international became the first player of the current season to score in six league games in a row. This means that number two on the list of goalscorers (18 goals) also tops superstar Harry Kane from FC Bayern, who has already scored 31 goals.
Undav is moving into the elite circle of VfB Stuttgart
Undav also enters an elite circle. Previously, only five players were successful for VfB in six league games in a row: Fredi Bobic, Sasa Kalajdzic, Sean Dundee, Giovane Elber and most recently around two years ago Serhou Guirassy, who now storms for BVB.
Guirassy also scored in his current employer’s 3-2 win against Hamburger SV, in which HSV led Dortmund 2-0 at half-time. Guirassy scored the equalizer and was the only BVB player not to score from a penalty. Ramy Bensebaini scored the other Borussia goals from the spot. Added to this is a missed penalty by Felix Nmecha, which makes a total of three BVB penalties in a league game – and thus a novelty.
FC Bayern also provided a novelty, increasing their goal tally to 97 thanks to the 4-0 win against Union Berlin, thus scoring 16 more goals than any Bundesliga team had ever achieved after 27 match days.
