Over 250,000 fans flocked to Seoul on Saturday to witness BTS’ comeback show – thereby setting a new record as the largest public concert in South Korean history.
Only 22,000 fans received a “golden ticket” for designated seats at the group’s first full performance in four years. But more than ten times as many gathered in the area to watch the free concert on video screens, CNN reported.
The Comeback Live – Arirang, which was also streamed live on Netflix, featured premiere performances of eight songs from BTS’ just-released new album Arirang – including “Body to Body”, “Aliens”, “Normal” and “2.0” – as well as the group’s previous hits such as “Dynamite”, “Butter” and “Mic Drop”.
RM there despite injury
The concert took place despite a short-term injury to BTS member RM, who had to sit on a chair while his bandmates danced around the stage. Earlier this week, BTS’ label Big Hit announced that RM had suffered “a sprained navicular accessory, a partial ligament tear and a talus contusion (with ligament damage and inflammation)” and that “RM’s stage performance, including choreography, will be partially limited.”
Following the release of their fifth studio album “Arirang” on Friday, BTS also has an 82-date world tour scheduled starting April 9. Ahead of the tour, BTS can also be seen in the US at the Spotify x BTS: SWIMSIDE event on March 23 – their first appearance in the States since the band’s hiatus due to South Korean military service – as well as a visit to “The Tonight Show”.
