One of the most striking designs is a protective poncho for children. “For example, after an explosion that sends glass particles flying, children can wear them as they flee to a shelter,” explains student Fuka Murata.
Other projects also focus on safety and comfort. For example, a team designed a modified bulletproof vest for women, with extra shock absorption. “A ceramic plate can shatter and cause shards upon impact,” says student Jotte Vaes. “We have developed a padding that is flexible in movement, but hardens upon impact.”
