WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – There has been a fire on the US Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, which is currently deployed in the Iran war. The fire broke out on Thursday in the laundry areas of the warship “USS Gerald R. Ford”, the US command responsible for the region (Centcom) said on X. The fire is therefore not related to combat operations and is under control.
The ship’s propulsion system was not damaged – the aircraft carrier remains fully operational, it said. Two sailors are reportedly receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the US military, the ship is currently in the Red Sea due to the war with Iran. In addition to the “USS Gerald R. Ford”, the USA also uses the aircraft carrier “USS Abraham Lincoln”./fsp/DP/mis
