US actor Colman Domingo has responded to Paris Jackson’s criticism of the upcoming biopic about her father Michael Jackson. The 56-year-old continues to hope for her blessing for the film project.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal magazine (WSJ), Domingo, who plays Jackson’s father Joe Jackson in the film, said: “I hope that she will eventually love this tribute that we did about her father.” The film with the simple title “Michael” was directed by Antoine Fuqua (including “Training Day” with Denzel Washington). Domingo had previously claimed in interviews that Jackson’s children supported the film project.
This apparently provoked Paris Jackson (27) into contradiction. Back in September 2025, she responded via Instagram to Domingo’s statements that she had been “helpful” during production. “Please don’t say I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a film I had 0% involvement in,” she wrote, calling the comment “pretty strange.”
Jackson clarified that she only read an early draft of the script and made comments on passages that “seemed dishonest or didn’t feel right.” After these points were ignored, the matter was over for her: “Not my monkeys, not my circus,” was her succinct comment.
Domingo told People magazine that Jackson and her siblings were “very supportive of our film,” citing a brief meeting at a gala event hosted by amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research). Jackson strongly disagreed with this account.
She explained that she had only briefly met the actor twice – once at a birthday party, once at the said AIDS charity event. The tablecloth seems to have been cut up for the time being.
Paris Jackson: model, musician, recovering person
Paris Jackson is the daughter of Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe. Born in 1998, she worked as a model, actress and musician and in recent years has also made a name for herself with her own music. Her crash escapades with heroin and alcohol were just as “prominent”.
At the beginning of January 2026 she was able to reach the milestone of six years “without drugs and alcohol”. According to her own statements, her path to sobriety began on January 7, 2020.
In addition to acting roles – including in the series “American Horror Stories” – she released her debut album “Wilted” in 2020, which stylistically moves between indie folk and alternative.
The Jackson biopic, produced by Lionsgate and Universal Pictures, is scheduled to hit US theaters on April 24, 2026. In addition to Domingo, the cast includes Nia Long and Miles Teller.
