Former 100 meter world champion Fred Kerley missed doping tests three times – and was banned for a long time. He had already set his sights on a new goal that is dividing the sports world.
The independent Integrity Commission (AIU) of the World Athletics Federation has banned former 100 meter world champion Fred Kerley for two years for reporting violations. The 30-year-old was not available for doping tests three times. The ban runs until August 11, 2027.
Kerley had been suspended since August 12th of the previous year. The AIU said he had behaved negligently and to a certain extent carelessly. When he was suspended, Kerley contradicted himself: He had neither acted negligently nor had the anti-doping officer done anything to locate him at his stated location.
Away from athletics, police arrested Kerley twice last year. Nevertheless, he registered for the Enhanced Games in May in Las Vegas – as the first track and field athlete and the first American man ever. At the controversial event, world records are also to be set with the help of doping substances.
Kerley won World Championship gold three times in his career: twice in the relay and in the 100 meters in Eugene in 2022. He won silver at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo and bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
