Slovenian ski jumper Dome Prevc has achieved Matti Nykänen’s longevity record.
Until Friday, Nykänen was the only hill jumper in history who has won Olympic gold, World Cup gold, the World Cup gold in the ski jump, the Central European hill week and the overall World Cup competition. The Finnish legend set his record in 1985.
On Friday, after the Suurmäki race in Lahti, it was confirmed that Prevc will win the overall World Cup competition, even though he was disqualified. Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi, who is second in the Cup, finished sixth in the race and can no longer overtake the Slovenian.
Prevc jumped the longest in Salppur on Friday with a jump of 129 meters, but the skis were a centimeter too long.
At the Milan-Cortina Olympics, Prevc won gold in both the suurmaki competition and the normal hill mixed competition. He has won a total of three World Championship medals and four lentomäki World Championship medals.
