A TikTok comment about abortion brings Zara Larsson under fire – but the singer clearly refuses to apologize.

The Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson is currently being criticized. A comment on TikTok sparked a heated debate. A woman shared a video of Larsson’s concert and jokingly wrote that she had an abortion afterwards. The unborn child was at least able to hear the song “Midnight Sun”.

Larsson replied: “I killed the performance and then you killed it after the performance, purrrrrr.” The phrase quickly spread across multiple platforms. Some criticized it as tasteless or disrespectful to a sensitive subject. Others defended the singer, reading the response as dark humor in the context of the original post.

No apology for the comment

In a later TikTok video, Larsson himself commented on the controversy. She made it clear: There would be no apology. She emphasized her advocacy for reproductive self-determination. She also criticized the fact that abortion is often only socially accepted if it is associated with suffering or trauma.

Instead, she advocated seeing abortions as part of health care and talking about them more openly.

Larsson comes from Sweden, where comparatively liberal abortion laws have been in effect since 1975. Abortions are possible there up to the 18th week without giving reasons.

Larsson is known for clear positions

The fact that the singer takes a clear position in public is nothing new for fans. Zara Larsson regularly speaks out on social and political issues – often with clear words.

She was recently a guest in the US magazine Cosmopolitan’s “Cheap Shots” interview series. In it, she talked about which artists you wouldn’t find in her playlists. Larsson said she blocked several musicians on Spotify. The reason: She considers this to be problematic. “They are all perpetrators,” she said. And added that you will never find Chris Brown in their playlists.
