Gladbach super talent: “Has to work every now and then”

The focus of Gladbach’s 17-year-old super talent Wael Mohya is not entirely on football. Coach Eugen Polanski draws an initial conclusion about the development.
Coach Eugen Polanski did not want to reveal whether Wael Mohya would be back in the starting line-up for Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening in the away game against FC Bayern (from 8.30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). However, he was full of praise for the young star, who mastered his first starting eleven “with flying colors” last weekend in the 1-0 win over Union Berlin.
After seven short appearances, Mohya was allowed to be on the field for 72 minutes last Saturday. It was the coaching team’s reward for his performance after his substitutions. He also impressed the coaching staff with his positive attitude and that he “comes onto the pitch every day with a smile,” reported coach Polanski at the press conference on Thursday. He has had to accept “dents” in the past few months, which are normal at this age.
With a view to his future career, the German youth international cannot currently concentrate 100 percent on professional football.
“He still has a few obligations. He then has to work more or less in the afternoon. It’s not like he can go home, lie down on the couch and just chill out,” reported the coach about Mohya, who is completing a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ). The trainer also praises his parents, who pick him up from training every day. “He is supported very well by his parents, the advisors and us.”
The 17-year-old’s chances of further appearances from the start are good. Not only are Tim Kleindienst and Nathan Ngoumou still missing, but Robin Haack will also be out for a longer period of time with a torn muscle fiber.
