The fifth evening of the Premier League darts was not a success on Thursday evening for Michael van Gerwen from Vlijmen and Gian van Veen from Andel. They were both eliminated in the first round.
Van Gerwen lost 6-1 to Luke Humphries in Cardiff. The Englishman broke ‘Mighty Mike’ in the fourth lay of the match and after that the Vlijmen resident was no longer able to turn the match around. Humphries was simply too strong for him in terms of scoring on Thursday evening. Humphries decided the game with double 16.
Gian van Veen lost 6-4 to home favorite Jonny Clayton. The Welshman scored twice lay Van Veen had started, but ‘GVV’ broke back and managed to come back from 1-4 to 4-5 with a nice 104 throw. In a difficult tenth leg made Clayton ultimately made the difference.
The fifth round in Cardiff was ultimately won by the Englishman Luke Littler. He beat Clayton in the final 6-4.
Despite the defeat in that final, Clayton is the leader in the Premier League darts after five rounds, the darts competition between the best eight darts players of the PDC association. Clayton has already won fourteen points. Van Veen is fourth with nine points, Van Gerwen fifth with eight points.
