A car crashed into a tree on Rijsdijk in Etten-Leur on Thursday evening. The car caught fire as a result of the impact, while the driver was trapped in the vehicle. Bystanders quickly intervened and brought buckets of water from the adjacent ditch to extinguish the fire.
The fire brigade arrived on site shortly afterwards and completely extinguished the fire. The driver was eventually able to be freed from the car. It is not known how the driver is doing.
The road is closed and traffic is being diverted while police, fire brigade and ambulance deal with the accident.
