Informal caregivers are people who care for a family member or friend who needs help. Very often also voluntary. Harelbeke will now support them better. Lynn Callewaert, councilor for Welfare and chairman of the Harelbeke healthcare company: “We will soon start informal care cafés. These are meeting places where people are presented with a theme by recognized informal care associations. This concerns, for example, self-care for the informal caregiver. How do I continue to have that capacity? How do I keep it up? What support is possible here in Harelbeke, but also within Flanders and federally? What support is there for the informal caregiver?”
Stronger together
Colin Casier from Harelbeke is an informal caregiver for his wife. He is happy that such informal care cafés are being created. Colin Casier, informal caregiver: “Together you form a stronger block. And not everyone is confronted with the same need for help, support, the need for… That differs from person to person. And in this way you can share the things you do in daily life as an informal caregiver. And you can also learn something from each other.”
