The number of cases of intimate partner violence has increased by twenty percent between 2021 and 2025. This is evident from the answer of Minister of Justice Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) to a written question from MP Sophie De Wit (N-VA). In 2021, this amounted to 56,346 files, while in 2025 it increased to 67,583, an average of approximately 185 files per day.
