The change in the Ministry of Justice left an unexpected and revealing scene of the political climate that surrounds the Government. The Secretary of Justice Sebastian Amerionumber two of Mariano Cúneo Libaronafound out that he was leaving his position in the plenary session of the Judicial Councilwhile presiding over an official meeting. The moment was recorded on video and quickly began to circulate on networks and media.
The situation occurred this Wednesday March 4in the middle of a session of the body in charge of the selection and control of judges. Amerio was leading the plenary session when someone showed him the news of the changes in the Ministry of Justice on their cell phone. At that moment he learned that he would no longer continue as vice minister.
The gesture was immediate: the official looked at the phone, paused and maintained his composure in front of the councilors present. The episode reflected how the movements in the cabinet were precipitated while institutional activity continued its course.
Amerio was considered one of the most influential officials within the ministry and responded politically to the presidential advisor Santiago Caputoone of the key figures in the Casa Rosada power circle. Since his position, he had accumulated prominence in different areas of the Government’s judicial policy.
The episode occurred in parallel with the confirmation of the departure of Cúneo Libarona of the Ministry of Justice, one of the few members of the original cabinet of Javier Milei that remained since the beginning of the administration in December 2023.
The minister’s resignation opened a reconfiguration process in a strategic portfolio for the Governmentespecially in a context crossed by institutional reforms and sensitive judicial debates. In this framework, he was appointed as the new head of the area Juan Bautista Mahiquesattorney general of the City of Buenos Aires and leader with experience in the judicial and political world.
Within this reconfiguration, Amerio’s replacement was also defined. As it turned out, will be replaced by Violaa leader close to Karina Milei and pointed out in the judicial field as “nephew” of Judge María Servini.
