Some gas station owners temporarily close their business, others even sell above the legal maximum price. The diesel price shot up by 14.4 euro cents on Thursday, causing bizarre scenes. “Legally you are not allowed to sell at a loss, but due to our maximum prices, gas station owners are obliged to do so,” says Johan Mattart of the Belgian Federation of Fuel Traders (Brafco).
