Veul Gère’s carnival music is not really what you expect in a hospital. Yet the Tilburg carnival group blew the roof off at the ETZ Elisabeth in Tilburg on Wednesday afternoon. Patients, staff and children walked in the polonaise and sang along loudly. The party was in front of the renovated music studio in the hospital, which was officially opened on Wednesday.

Making live music for and with patients, their loved ones and visitors: that is the goal of the ETZ Music Moment. “If you end up in the hospital here, you will be well cared for, including musically,” says Christel van der Brugge, the hospital’s studio leader.

How it started
The music studio has been around since 2014. Guus Meeuwis opened the studio at the time and gave it the name Guus Meeuwis Musicids Studio. Children who stayed in the hospital could make and listen to music themselves. “Music gives comfort, joy and hopefully it also heals,” Meeuwis said during the opening.

In September 2025, the hospital announced that the collaboration with the Musicids Foundation was ended and that the hospital will now continue the music studio independently. The reason: not only children, but also adults wanted to enjoy the music. And according to the hospital, it has been shown in recent years that it really helps.

The opening
This became clear during the opening of the renovated studio: more than a hundred patients, hospital employees and children danced laughing to the music of the main act Veul Gère.

Giving a performance was not the only thing the carnival group did; they also donated 5000 euros to the hospital. This is not the first time they have donated: the proceeds from their sales have been going to the studio for years. The amount comes from the sale of their special carnival scarf and other merchandise. Last January they gave three concerts in 013 Tilburg, where the items were sold.
