It was clear to everyone in advance that Knack Roeselare was not presented with a bite-sized block with Resovia. The team from Rzeszow is fourth in the Polish league, just below Lublin, the only team that could not beat Knack in the group stage.
So Roeselare had to be from a good background if it wanted to gain something in the first leg and even then… Rzeszow started the game like a steam train at home. Contrast this with an unconvincing Knack and in no time the home team took the set 25-16.
We also got the same story in set two. The Poles pushed on for a while in the beginning and quickly opened up a gap. Knack fought back, but the second set went to Rzeszow again at 25-20.
Third set, good set? The people from Roeselare started excellently, but once the Polish train had departed again, there was little to stop them. 25-18 and a dry 3-0 for Knack. But we have to be honest: this was the West Flemish’s worst match in this campaign.
If Knack still wants to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, it will have to achieve a real miracle. But sports wisdom teaches us that anything is possible in sports, especially in volleyball. Appointment next Thursday in a sold out REO Arena.
