(The Bride!), the long-awaited return to directing Maggie Gyllenhaal. The plot of The bride!: a 1930s Chicago between science and revolt

The story is set in Chicago of the 1930sreconstructed with noir and grainy atmospheres. Here, a lonely Frank (played by Christian Bale) asks for the scientist’s help Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to create a companion. The two they bring a murdered young woman, Ida, back to life (Jessie Buckley), who is reborn as the Bride. However, what follows goes beyond simple scientific experimentation: the new creature triggers a radical cultural movement and an explosive love story that upsets the social order of the city, including murders and an unprecedented search for identity.

A cast of big names

The cast of The bride! boasts performers of absolute importance and awarded by the Academy. Jessie Buckley faces a complex acting test playing three distinct roles: Ida, the Bride and the writer Mary Shelley, paying homage to the structure of the original 1935 classic. Next to her, an unrecognizable Christian Bale takes on the role of the monster, while Annette Bening plays Dr. Euphronious. They complete the group of stars Penélope CruzPeter Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaalwho returns to work under the direction of her sister.

Symbolism and production: the meaning of the title

A technical detail that defines the film’s identity is the exclamation point in the title. As explained by director Gyllenhaalthis graphic sign represents the repressed and finally liberated energy of women. The production makes use of exceptional collaborators such as the costume designer Sandy Powell and the composer Hildur Guðnadóttir. The film was shot entirely with IMAX certified digital technologiesguaranteeing a powerful visual experience that enhances the scenography curated by Karen Murphy.

When he comes out The bride! at the cinema

Many viewers wonder when he comes out the film in Italian cinemas. The official distribution handled by Warner Bros. Pictures has set the debut for the first days of March, simultaneously with the release in the United States. In particular, The bride! will arrive in theaters on March 5, 2026. The film will also be available in immersive format IMAXa technical choice intended to enhance Lawrence Sher’s photography and the impressive musical choreographies that punctuate the narrative.
