Since the weekend, Domenico Tedesco has been unable to carry out his job as coach of Fenerbahçe Istanbul. British media are now even reporting that he was taken to hospital.

Concern about German coach Domenico Tedesco is growing at Fenerbahçe Istanbul. The former Bundesliga coach is currently unable to look after his team due to health problems.

The Turkish club announced on Wednesday that the 40-year-old was suffering from a “serious infection”. According to a report in the British newspaper “Sun”, Tedesco was therefore taken to hospital.

Last weekend the coach was absent from the league game against Antalyaspor (2:2) due to illness. He will also not be there in the cup game against Gaziantep on Wednesday (6.30 p.m.). Tedesco’s treatment is “in progress,” the association said in a statement.

Tedesco took over the position at “Fener” in September 2025 and succeeded José Mourinho. In the Bundesliga, the native Italian worked for Schalke 04 (2017 to 2019) and RB Leipzig (2021 to 2022). He also coached the Belgium national team between February 2023 and January 2025.

During his absence, assistant coach Zeki Murat Göle will take over responsibility on the sidelines for the Istanbul team. According to the club, there is hope that Tedesco can be back on the bench in the league game against Samsunspor this weekend.

Ten game days before the end of the season, Fenerbahçe is in second place in the Süper Lig. The gap to league leaders Galatasaray is four points.
