After termination of the contract in Darmstadt

Former Bundesliga professional Jean-Paul Boëtius has found a new club. The 31-year-old midfielder is joining Dutch second division club RKC Waalwijk with immediate effect. The veteran receives a contract until the end of the current season.
On Deadline Day in winter, SV Darmstadt 98 and Boëtius parted ways after just 17 games. The professional’s contract was terminated early by mutual agreement. The right-footer joined the Lilies in January 2025 and was used regularly in the 2024/25 return series. This season, however, there were only five games lasting a total of 137 minutes.
The former Mainz native and Rotterdam native Boëtius had been without a club for a year and a half before his commitment to Darmstadt. In September 2022, he was diagnosed with a tumor in his testicle, which had to be surgically removed. He then played 15 games in the Bundesliga for Hertha BSC, but did not receive a new contract after relegation in 2023.
Boëtius moves to RKC Waalwijk: The reactions
“Jean-Paul is an absolutely exceptional player who is not normally available for us. But sometimes there are moments when we can help each other,” explained technical director Bernard Schuiteman. “We are convinced that he will give our team an additional boost in the crucial final phase of this season, both on and off the pitch. It also fits with our values: offering players a platform to shine again.”
Boëtius said: “It will certainly surprise some people that I am making this decision, but my management has been in contact with the club for a long time and now everything has fallen into place so that we can support each other. On the one hand, I am looking forward to going to the World Cup with Suriname and proving myself again in the Netherlands, but on the other hand, I am highly motivated to contribute to the club’s goal of playing an important role in the Eredivisie promotion play-offs.”
