Fujairah Open Men’s Tennis Tournament held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was canceled due to security concerns.
In a statement from the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), “Following ongoing security concerns in the region, events planned for this week and next week have been cancelled.” It was said.
The statement said, “The safety and well-being of our players and tournament staff is our top priority. The players continue to remain in the region; their accommodation and all urgent needs are met, while onward travel arrangements are being investigated and they are provided with full support.” expressions were used.
In the ATP Challenger 50 level tournament, where national tennis players Ergi Kırkın, Mert Alkaya and Yankı Erel competed, the security alarm started to sound while the qualifying matches were being played on March 3, and the images showed that the players, the referee and the ball boys quickly left the court after the warning “Please enter the building”.
The qualifying match between national tennis player Yankı Erel and Czech Marek Gengel was also abandoned at the beginning of the first set.
