The financially troubled German Badminton Association (DBV) is not sending a men’s team to the World Team Championships in Horsens, Denmark (from April 24th).

On Tuesday, the DBV cited sporting and economic reasons for this – given the many injuries, participation does not make sense in either respect. The team’s competitiveness is “significantly” limited.

“This decision was anything but easy for us because we know how much the boys would have loved to play this tournament as a team,” said DBV sports director Jakob Höi. “At the same time, in the current financial situation, we have to act very responsibly and set priorities. Under these conditions, participation would have made neither sporting sense nor economically justifiable.”

The German women are not qualified for the team World Cup.
