Verls Alessio Besio (l.) is disappointed

As of: March 3, 2026 • 10:17 p.m

SC Verl has to accept a severe setback in the promotion race of the 3rd league. The East Westphalia team lost 1:2 (0:2) at home to Jahn Regensburg.

For the losers, this ends a very long unbeaten streak in their own stadium on Poststrasse. They last lost at home against MSV Duisburg on August 30, 2025 (2:3). This was followed by eleven unbeaten home games. Another game at home without defeat would have set a new Verler club record 3rd league means.

Disappointing performance from SC Verl

This time there was nothing to gain in front of our own audience. Verl deservedly lost after an overall disappointing performance. The losers only got one point from the last three games.

“We simply made too many mistakes today and in the past few weeks. And overall we didn’t have enough penetration at the front,” said Verl’s midfielder Timur Gayret at Magenta.

We didn’t have good ball quality. It was a deserved defeat.

Three other teams can overtake SC Verl

SC Verl initially remains in fourth place in the table, but can be overtaken by SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Hansa Rostock and RW Essen, all of whom only play on Wednesday this English week.

The Regensburg team are now three games unbeaten and after this win they are free of all relegation worries.

Eichinger’s double pack brings Jahn forward

The Verl team could have fallen behind after just 15 seconds when SSV captain Christian Kühlwetter appeared free in front of Verl’s goalkeeper Philipp Schulze, but was denied by the SCV keeper. In the 19th minute the time had come.

Alessio Besio played a disaster pass to Noel Eichinger. The Jahn striker didn’t have to be asked twice and beat Philipp Schulze with a left-footed shot to make it 0-1.

In the 36th minute, Eichinger made it even better. He placed a ball in the center and then scored with a wonderful overhead kick to make it 2-0. Verl was served.

SC Verls Besio misses the equalizer

Previously, Besio had only aimed at the post of the Regensburg goal after a beautiful solo. It was the only really good scene from the Verlers, who didn’t really find their game at all.

Verl’s coach Tobias Strobl changed three times at halftime. Antonio Foti, Marco Wörner and Michael Stöcker came onto the pitch. The new trio was also unable to give the Verl game any decisive impetus.

Arweiler makes things exciting again for SC Verl

Wörner was a bit unlucky when he only hit the outside post in the 60th minute. The Strobl team had more possession of the ball as the game progressed and then made things exciting again.

After an unsuccessful shot by Wörner, Jonas Arweiler, who had also been substituted, was there and netted the ball from close range (84th minute). For Arweiler it was the eleventh goal of the season and the seventh joker goal this season.

But nothing more happened, and so it was sealed, SC Verl’s first home defeat after such a long time.

Away in Ingolstadt

The East Westphalia team will appear late on the next match day. The game at FC Ingolstadt on Sunday evening (7.30 p.m.) concludes the 28th matchday.
