Bad Bunny’s historic Super Bowl performance set a new global viewership record. More than 4 billion people watched the performance.
On Monday, the NFL, Roc Nation (show co-producer) and Apple Music (main sponsor of the Halftime Show) announced that Bad Bunny’s performance reached 4.157 billion views in 24 hours. These numbers include global broadcast views as well as views on YouTube and social media platforms.
The more comprehensive viewing figures were released after Nielsen Big Data + Panel revealed that Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show reached 128.2 million viewers during the live broadcast of the Super Bowl in the US. This makes it one of the most-watched performances in Super Bowl history – just behind Kendrick Lamar’s record-breaking show last year, which attracted 133.4 million viewers.
Grammy win reinforces the effect
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance – combined with his Grammy win for Album of the Year – also had a noticeable knock-on effect. The week after the big game, the Puerto Rican superstar hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with his song “DtMF” – his first solo number one hit on that chart. (His collaboration with Cardi B and J Balvin, “I Like It,” had already reached the top spot in 2018.) His album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” also just returned to the top of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
After the Super Bowl, Bad Bunny started the next leg of his “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” world tour. He just finished two performances in Sydney, Australia, and has Tokyo on March 7th. A European tour begins at the end of May, with dates until the end of July.
