The hedgehog is doing badly. To support these cute mammals, the Sustainable Waterland Foundation is organizing a competition to encourage hedgehog-friendly gardens. The goal is to build the longest hedgehog route in the municipalities of Waterland and Edam-Volendam.
The competition works as follows: neighbors can register as a group with the foundation. It is important to indicate the number of addresses participating and take photos as proof.
The problem is that most gardens have many fences that hedgehogs cannot get over. The question remains how to make a garden hedgehog-friendly. According to Channa Brunt of the Sustainable Waterland Foundation, this can be done, for example, by leaving a space open under the fence, so that the animals can crawl under it to the next garden.

Her own garden is very hedgehog-friendly; the animals can easily walk under the fence to the next garden. There are also bunches of branches and dead plants that contain insects that the hedgehogs can eat again. She also has a pond where the hedgehogs can drink.
So if you would like to participate in the competition with your neighbors? Look upNH Helps how you can do that.
