The DFB women got off to a successful start in their World Cup qualification with a 5-0 win. While a returning player was completely convincing, a newcomer also made a great impression. The individual criticism.
National coach Christian Wück couldn’t have imagined a much better start to the World Cup qualification with the DFB women. Germany beat Slovenia 5-0 at the start. In the Dresden stadium, the 19,169 fans chanted “Oh, how beautiful that is.”
Vivien Endemann (6th) and Elisa Senß (12th) took the lead early on and thus brought calm to the German game. Captain Giulia Gwinn also saw it this way on ARD after the game: “We started very well in both halves and brought in a lot of energy.”
At the same time, she also emphasized that some uncleanliness would have to be eliminated in the future. By this she could have meant, among other things, the exploitation of chances, because even more goals could have followed in the first half alone. But Shekiera Martinez (17th) and again Endemann (23rd) missed top-class chances.
In the second round the picture didn’t change at all. Linda Dallmann (48th) and Larissa Mühlhaus (52nd) increased the result. It was a special evening for Mühlhaus: The Hamburg native came on as a substitute at half-time, celebrated her debut with the national team and needed just seven minutes to score her first goal.
Lea Schüller scored her 55th international goal in her first international match after moving from FC Bayern to Manchester United and made the final score 5-0 (71st). The striker also earned a grade of 2. Read the rest of the DFB women’s grades here or in the photo show above.
The DFB women will continue their game against Norway in Stavanger on Saturday (6 p.m.). The third opponent on the way to the World Cup is Austria. Only the first team in the group qualifies directly for the tournament – that’s exactly what the Wück team is aiming for.
