The municipality of Noordenveld has a new location in mind for additional shelter for refugee Ukrainians. The plan is to place individual residential units on three plots on the Tweede Energieweg in Roden.
One of the existing buildings on the site will be converted into a communal room with kitchen.
The municipality wants to make room for 120 Ukrainians on the Tweede Energieweg. It will be a similar shelter to the shelter that already exists on the Eerste Energieweg.
According to a spokesperson for the municipality, the intention is for the shelter in units to continue there for three years. “But the approach will be evaluated in the meantime, during which a decision can be made whether the shelter can be closed earlier or whether it should be extended.”
Last month, the municipality of Noordenveld also came up with initiatives to create more places to live for refugees from Ukraine. This includes a flat in Roden and expansion of the shelter at Natuurcamping Molenduin in Norg.
“This new plan on the Tweede Energieweg is in the context of the Drenthe puzzle that the municipality is putting together,” a municipal spokesperson explains. “Noordenveld has agreed to guarantee 500 shelter places. We currently have about 200, but more places will be added soon.”
Local residents and entrepreneurs in the area have been informed about the plan by letter. An information meeting will be held for them soon.
