The Italian is in the run-off with Thuram for a place next to the twenty-year-old from Rione Cicerone. A conservative choice. With Lautaro and Bonny out of action, Chivu only has two attackers left. Let’s analyze the precedents: in their 44 matches, considering the initial formation and not the one during the match in progress – which has changed a few times – only once have Inter launched a line-up other than 3-5-2: at the Club World Cup they deployed a sort of 3-4-2-1 against the Japanese team Urawa Red Diamonds, with Zalewski and Sebastiano Esposito behind Lautaro. From then on Chivu always chose two pure attackers.

Inzaghi Chapter. In his 217 matches at the helm of Inter – again considering only the initial form and not the changes during the match in progress – he has relied on an attacking tandem different from usual on only four occasions: Como-Inter and Torino-Inter last year, Inter-Genoa 4-0 in August 2021 – debut for the Nerazzurri – and Lazio-Inter 3-1 in October 2021.
