Without Lautaro and Bonny and with the derby on Sunday, the coach is thinking of an unprecedented tandem with Thuram. A rare thing for the Nerazzurri: out of 217 matches only 4 times Simone aimed for the formation with just one striker

March 3 – 12.28pm – MILAN

The last time was on the lake. Same match, Como-Inter, but different context. On the last day of the last championship, a few days before the Champions League final, Inzaghi launched a 3-4-2-1 with Correa and Zalewski behind Taremi. A module already proposed against Torino two days earlier. A winning choice concluded with two victories of his own, both 2-0.

WITH THE URAWA

After a few months, Cristian Chivu could propose a similar scheme again, with a striker and a half, fielding Esposito next to Frattesi. The Italian is in the run-off with Thuram for a place next to the twenty-year-old from Rione Cicerone. A conservative choice. With Lautaro and Bonny out of action, Chivu only has two attackers left. And on Sunday there is the scudetto derby. The Nerazzurri arrive with a ten point lead. A victory, but also a small point, would launch Cristian’s boys even further towards the tricolor. First there is Como, however. For this reason, the Nerazzurri coach could play the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final with a new tandem. Let’s analyze the precedents: in their 44 matches, considering the initial formation and not the one during the match in progress – which has changed a few times – only once have Inter launched a line-up other than 3-5-2: at the Club World Cup they deployed a sort of 3-4-2-1 against the Japanese team Urawa Red Diamonds, with Zalewski and Sebastiano Esposito behind Lautaro. From then on Chivu always chose two pure attackers.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Inzaghi Chapter. In his 217 matches at the helm of Inter – again considering only the initial form and not the changes during the match in progress – he has relied on an attacking tandem different from usual on only four occasions: Como-Inter and Torino-Inter last year, Inter-Genoa 4-0 in August 2021 – debut for the Nerazzurri – and Lazio-Inter 3-1 in October 2021. In the first case Dzeko was supported by Stefano Sensi, then replaced by Arturo Vidal, while in the second he chose Ivan Perisic. Correa replaced the Croatian after an hour, re-establishing the classic 3-5-2, but without achieving the victory. Against Genoa, however, Inzaghi only had Satriano and Pinamonti available. A similar scenario could arise again in Como
