A car was on fire on the A28 this morning near the Wijk exit. This car fire caused traffic jams for miles in both directions.
It is not yet known what caused the car to catch fire. As far as we know, no one was injured.
The fire has now been extinguished and the damaged car has been recovered. The left lane was temporarily closed due to the recovery work. This concerns the direction from Zwolle to Hoogeveen.
Traffic had to take delays into account during the morning rush hour. There was a traffic jam from Zwolle to Hoogeveen. At its peak, delays increased to about forty minutes.
And traffic was also backed up in the other direction. There was a traffic jam from Hoogeveen to Zwolle of about five kilometers. Due to this delay, traffic on the A37 also ended up in a small traffic jam between the Nieuwlande exit and the connection to the A28 at Hoogeveen.
