Kenya’s anti-doping agency ADAK is suspended a total of 27 athletes due to doping violations.
The group includes, among others, marathon runner Rita Jeptoo, 45, who has already been caught for doping once, and the Kenyan champion of the 400-meter hurdles Wiseman Were25.
ADAK is now investigating the cases, and it has ordered the caught athletes to be temporarily banned from competition.
Among the 27 named athletes, in addition to track and field athletes, there are football players, volleyball players and basketball players.
Rita Jeptoo, the most famous athlete of the bunch, complained about the use of epo already in September 2014. Before that, she had won the famous and lucrative Boston and Chicago marathons.
At that time, Jeptoo was suspended for two years. The fight got longer when the Court of Arbitration for Sport felt that Jeptoo had concealed his visits to the doctor who supplied him with epo. Jeptoo was thus guilty of “misleading activity”.
Jeptoo’s doping scandal ended in the fall of 2018, and the athlete who had tarnished his reputation slowly returned to competitive sports. Jeptoo won the Zaragoza Marathon in 2024 at the age of 43.
According to Kenya’s anti-doping agency ADAK, Jeptoo is now suspected of using anabolic steroids.
