TEHRAN (dpa-AFX) – The Iranian capital Tehran has again been shaken by heavy bombings. Around a dozen rockets also hit the outskirts of the eastern commuter town of Pardis, Iranian media reported. The windows in the high-rise buildings in the new development areas were shaking, as residents reported to the German Press Agency. Videos on social media showed clouds of gray smoke rising above the hills on the edge of the Albors Mountains.
Residents of the metropolis of Tehran, home to around 15 million people, reported a sleepless night. “The windows were shaking and the sound of fighter jets could be heard in the sky,” said Mohammed, a 34-year-old journalist. “I tried to reassure my wife even though I was shocked myself.” They were the heaviest bombings to date. “But I feel like more difficult nights like this are coming and I need to prepare for them somehow.”
Ehsan (32), an employee at a government agency, was visiting a friend. They talked about war, US President Donald Trump and his words that even bigger attacks would follow. Suddenly there was a bang in the city center. “We both went up to the roof in fear to look around. Columns of smoke were rising everywhere,” he said. “I said to my colleague, maybe the war really started tonight.”/arb/DP/stk
