A car was on fire on the A28 this morning near the Wijk exit. This car fire has now caused traffic jams for miles in both directions.
It is not yet known what caused the car to catch fire. As far as we know, no one was injured.
According to Rijkswaterstaat, the fire has now been extinguished, but the damaged car still needs to be removed. The left lane is closed due to the recovery work. This concerns the direction from Zwolle to Hoogeveen. Rijkswaterstaat expects the road to be reopened around 9 a.m.
Traffic must therefore take delays into account for the time being. There is now a traffic jam of about five kilometers from Zwolle to Hoogeveen. Earlier this morning the delay increased to about forty minutes.
And traffic is also backed up in the other direction. There is also a traffic jam of about five kilometers from Hoogeveen towards Zwolle. Due to this delay, traffic on the A37 also ends up in a small traffic jam between the Nieuwlande exit and the connection to the A28 at Hoogeveen.
