The Redbird owner will be at San Siro on Sunday evening to follow Allegri’s team’s match against Inter. It is the third time in 2026, which confirms his desire to be increasingly physically close to the Rossoneri

L. Bianchin and M. Pasotto

March 3 – 8.41am – MILAN

Leave the central seat in the grandstand free, please. Gerry Cardinale is expected at San Siro for the derby on Sunday evening, a choice that confirms his attitude in recent months: the desire to stay close to Milan physically, much more than in the past. Cardinale wants to experience this late winter derby at San Siro and it is logical that, if the plans do not change, he will take the opportunity to say goodbye to the team – however quickly – and talk to the managers about the major current issues of this period, the stadium and NBA Europe above all.

three times in 50 days

The time frame is significant. Cardinale came to Milan on January 21, when he met the team at Milanello, spoke at length with Giorgio Furlani, met Igli Tare and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, had lunch with Allegri and greeted the team. The message, which was agitated at that time, was clear: a few days before the refinancing at the end of January, RedBird’s idea was not to make any revolutions and to end the season with the current management. On February 15th, another move to Milanello, just 25 days after the previous one. Cardinale was in the Football League on February 16th, his first official presence with his fellow owners. This derby, however, would be his sixth seen live at San Siro. The most beautiful? The first, on 3 September 2022: the 3-2 victory with the scudetto on their chest, when Leao and Giroud were masters of the city.

stadium and nba

Cardinale’s presence, of course, does not make a big difference in terms of operations: GC follows AC Milan news from the United States. Of course, two big dossiers are more interesting than the others: the stadium and NBA Europe. The new San Siro is strategic for the Milan of the future and these are delicate months. Milan and Inter must reach an agreement on the project of the new stadium before the summer, entrusted to two internationally renowned studios such as Manica and Foster + Partners. NBA Europe, on the other hand, is an idea that Cardinale cares about a lot: participating in the new basketball league that the NBA wants to inaugurate in Europe in a year and a half. The plan is to register a franchise with the name and colors of Milan but negotiations are very open on the subject: the first non-binding offers from the owners are expected by the end of the month.

redbird is a 94 billion deal

It is impossible, in this context, not to consider the current events of recent days. Paramount, a company of which RedBird is a partner, has finalized a 110 billion dollar (94 billion euro) agreement for the acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2026 and was one of the great cases of American finance, with the fight over the last offer between Paramount and Netflix. Winning the derby wouldn’t be a bad way to celebrate.
