A few days ago, on his Instagram account, Guillermo Moreno shared an unusual reel from the start of the presidential campaign. The renowned former Secretary of Commerce of Kirchnerism and current leader of the group Principles and Values llaunched his candidacy, with a view to next year’s presidential elections, using a video edited with AI that reverts to the film Matrix.

Just like the classic science fiction feature film starring Keanu Reeves and directed by the sisters Wachowski, The Peronist leader dressed as Neo’s character dodges the bullets of two antagonists. In this spot, unlike Mr. Smith from the science fiction saga, there are two boys dressed in the t-shirts identified as “libertarian” and “progressive” who shoot at the Peronist leader.

In interviews and party events he has drawn timelines of the electoral dispute, and that, facing 2027, his project “is not secondary, but central.” One of his most significant statements in this sense points to his participation: “2027 is obvious,” suggesting a political intention to contest the Casa Rosada again with his proposal and his vision of Peronism.

A few hours ago, continuing with the Peronist reference’s journey with AI, a new video starring the former official was uploaded on social networks. On this occasion, the edited version made with AI shows Moreno in the middle of a report in a television studio, but when faced with a question from the interviewer, he pulls out a gun and fires two shots into the air.

The audiovisual sequence recalls the scandal that marked the management of Dark during the Kirchnerist governments about the alleged presence of a gun on his desk when he received local businessmen. A gesture that for many symbolized the pressure that was exerted on the private sector in the face of certain demands to open imports and that was an example of the official’s “tough style” to negotiate and apply price control policies.

The version that circulated at that time indicated that the leader used to call corporate executives to his office and, with a revolver visible on the tabledemanding agreements regarding State trade policies, which generated a climate of tension in some sectors of the Argentine business community. However, in the face of these versions, Moreno always categorically denied that this had happened during his management in Commerce and maintained that the story was part of a “mythology” forged around his figure.

Guillermo Moreno was sentenced by the Justice Department to abuse of authority and destruction and disabling of public recordswithin the framework of the case linked to the manipulation of data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) during his management as Secretary of Internal Trade. The judicial investigation determined that, between 2006 and 2007, changes were promoted in the methodology for measuring the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the agency’s technicians were displaced, in a context in which the alteration of official statistics on inflation was reported. The Federal Oral Court No. 2 concluded that there was an improper intervention on the organization and that the integrity of public data was affected.

Moreno’s response to these criticisms was also virulent. On several occasions he accused the media of spreading “lies” and of being part of smear campaigns against his management. Today, in light of judicial investigations and debates about abuse of authority in Moreno’s management, that anecdote continues to be mentioned as part of a controversial legacy that marked his time in one of the most sensitive areas of Argentine public administration.
