After her competition, Hondema hands out countless autographs to enthusiastic children. She notices that attention to athletics and long jumping is on the rise. “These are fun days and fun moments. I had a more than excellent match and positivity will get me further. So let me hold on to that,” she says.
Hondema hopes to qualify for the World Indoor Championships in Poland next week. The limit for this is 6.75 meters. Hondema will still jump in Berlin next Friday and she could possibly be added to the field of participants via the international rankings.
