Swiss sportswear retailer On has appointed Mauro Vime Castillo to the role of Director of Engineering.
Castillo, who was previously Head of Engineering at On, announced his new position on Monday on the career network Linkedin. He took over this and with it responsibility for the teams for Product Research and Development, Athlete Technology and Emerging Technology at the Zurich, London, Berlin, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City locations at the beginning of the month. Previously, he was responsible for the technology team behind the direct-to-consumer channels – website, app and point-of-sales – for all markets (except China).
“While this new role takes me outside of my consumer technology comfort zone, I believe these worlds couldn’t be more closely connected,” said Castillo. “True innovation and technological advancement only comes from a deep understanding of both the craft of creating the best performance products imaginable, as well as the consumer dynamics and growing community that drives our brand.”
Before joining On as a Senior Principal Engineer in October 2024, Castillo worked for Glovo. According to his own information, he worked for almost eight years in various roles at the Spanish technology company that specializes in delivery services, most recently as Principal Software Engineer.
The announcement of his promotion comes after the Swiss sporting goods supplier put its second production facility into operation last week, which uses the self-developed “LightSpray” process. 32 robots will be used at the new location in Busan, South Korea, which represents an important step for On in scaling the technology globally.
