Yet another episode of checkpoint violation and this time it ended in tragedy. It happened in Rome, in the Quarticciolo neighborhood (eastern suburbs), on the evening of March 1st. Three South Americans on board a Toyota Yaris did not stop for a police patrol and then fled. The Volante chased the criminals, and a Carabinieri patrol was also added for a short distance. At Via Collanina the fleeing vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding with a Fiat Punto, in which three people were travelling: father, mother and son. All deceased. The fugitives were arrested. Burglary tools were found on board their vehicle.

The three arrested South Americans are accused of vehicular homicide, as well as violation of duties towards officials, officers and agents, resistance, carrying objects suitable for burglary and resistance in continuation bond.
