1. FC Köln is fighting to stay in the Bundesliga. In the news blog on t-online you will find all the important news about the Geißbockheim.
How is it going? 1. FC Cologne further – and with coach Lukas Kwasniok? One thing has been clear since Sunday: the next home game against Borussia Dortmund will not be a final for the 44-year-old. The sporting management only wants to take stock during the international break and decide on how to proceed.
On Sunday, Vice President Ulf Sobek said in a written statement to Bild and the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger: “Lukas Kwasniok knows pressure situations and has proven several times in his career that he can stabilize and develop teams. I experience every day the intensity and clarity with which he works with his coaching team.” And this work will continue to be viewed positively.
The FC board continued: “We have great respect for the situation, but we are convinced of the quality of our squad and the daily work. In phases like this it is about clarity, unity and conviction. Our goal is to turn the trend around as quickly as possible. Everyone is close together and working hand in hand.” The point tally “doesn’t show a good trend”, but we are in “close, trusting communication with the sporting management around Thomas Kessler. Now it’s about adjusting the right screws together and getting the team back on the road to success.” In the best case scenario, next Saturday against Borussia Dortmund.

On Saturday, 1. FC Köln saw their competition in the bottom of the table catch up to FC. After their own defeat at FC Augsburg, Werder Bremen, St. Pauli and Borussia Mönchengladbach won their games. Mainz 05 also scored a point Bavarian Leverkusen.
Thanks to a 2-0 win in the basement duel against 1. FC Heidenheim, Werder reduced the gap to 1. FC Köln to two points. The FC St. Pauli won at TSG Hoffenheim 1-0 and moved within one point of FC. Thanks to a 1-0 win against Union Berlin, Mönchengladbach even moved past their arch-rivals from the cathedral city by one point. And Mainz, like St. Pauli, urged thanks a 1-1 draw against Leverkusen to within one point of Cologne.
For FC, the results of the competition were an absolute horror constellation: the winless February (only one point from four games) cost the billy goats most of their lead over the relegation zone. 16th place is only two points away, and Wolfsburg could even move up to one point with a win on Sunday in Stuttgart. The FC is now directly in the relegation battle.
