Müller Gala: Ex-Bayern star shines for Vancouver

Munich’s long-time top performer is in great form and scores two goals. Meanwhile, a former DFB colleague is celebrating his debut in the MLS and can immediately distinguish himself.
Müller continued his strong performances from the previous season. He first scored in the 25th minute with a penalty kick and added his second goal in the 37th minute. Brian White increased the score to 3-0 shortly before half-time (45.+2).
“He played at the highest level and achieved the greatest things you can achieve in sport,” said White about his German teammate: “That’s why we’re all learning from him. He has a tremendous amount of leadership both on and off the pitch, and we’re all trying to learn that and follow his example.”
Former German international striker Timo Werner scored a goal on his debut for the San José Earthquakes after coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 win against Atlanta United. Werner came into the game in the 61st minute and set up Ousseni Bouda to make it 2-0 18 minutes later. The 29-year-old had arrived in the USA just three days earlier after receiving his visa.
“It was a special feeling because I haven’t experienced love in the last few weeks or months. All the people here gave me that love and that felt really good,” said Werner after the game. The striker had recently seen no prospects at RB Leipzig and therefore decided to move to the USA.
The fans in San José gave the newcomer an enthusiastic reception. “I think everyone could see how much people were looking forward to seeing me play,” said Werner: “And that reinforces my belief that it was absolutely the right decision to come here.”
