Harry Kane

As of: March 1, 2026 • 10:05 a.m

Harry Kane also scores twice against Borussia Dortmund and improves his own record. The FC Bayern Munich man leaves even experts speechless and sets his sights on Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record.

You should always be careful with superlatives. They wear out. But even the most frugal journalist with the largest vocabulary will find it difficult to find new words Harry Kane to describe adequately.

Kane stands out in a moving classic

The Englishman, who has left mouths open week after week since moving to FC Bayern, was also there “Classic” against Borussia Dortmund (3:2) on Saturday evening – once again – the protagonist of a top game that actually had various other exciting stories to offer.

There was Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, who could have been sent off the field for a challenge against Josip Stanisic, but was only warned, shortly afterwards scored the 1-0, only to foul Stanisic again in his own penalty area in the second half and thus owe the penalty to make it 2-1.

There was Joshua Kimmich, who initially made it 1-1 after the break in blind understanding with Serge Gnabry, before deciding the game for the German record champions with a world-class goal in the 87th minute.

Kane in line with Emmerich and Maric

And there was the “classic” itself, which absolutely lived up to its reputation as the biggest game in German football and almost exceeded expectations with four goals in the spectacular second half.

Nevertheless, it was Kane who outshone everything that evening. In his fourth Bundesliga game in a row, the 32-year-old scored at least twice. A series that had only been achieved by two players in the history of the German upper house: Lothar Emmerich in 1967 and Tomislav Maric in 2001.

Kane breaks his own record – in fewer games

The English national team captain has scored at least one brace in 14 competitive games across all competitions this season. Against BVB he also broke his personal goal record for a club season with his goals numbers 44 and 45.

He has now celebrated more often than his previous record from his first year in the Bayern jersey, when he scored 44 goals in 45 games – he currently has 37 appearances.

TV expert Kemme flat: “From another planet”

But the striker remains modest. “I’m certainly having a good moment. With this team I’ll always get opportunities. Serge gave me one on a silver platter and Stani (Josip Stanisic, Note d. Red.) takes the penalty. In these moments you have to be ready to take advantage of your chances in games like this. You go through phases in a season where things just seem to be going their way. And I’m just like that,” Kane chimed in Sky asked about its shape.

Former national player Tabea Kemme, however, said what the rest of the football world probably thinks. “We can almost say a player from another planet. 45 goals in 37 competitive games. Oh my God,” said the TV expert, before asking the question that should not only concern opposing coaches: “What do you want to say?”

Kane reaches for Lewandowski’s record

At the moment it seems as if only an injury could stop Kane. But nobody thinks about that. Not even the otherwise frugal superstar. Asked whether he was aiming for Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record of 41 goals in a season, Kane, who is eleven goals shy of Lewandowski, had clear words.

“Yes, definitely! I just have to keep doing what I’ve been doing so far. There are still a lot of games to play. I have to try to stay consistent,” he said, before England’s reluctance caught up with him: “We’ll see at the end of April, beginning of May whether it’s possible.”

Whether with or without Lewandowski’s record: Kane has already written his name in the history books. And he’s still far from full: titles (plural!) are needed. So it wasn’t surprising that the goalgetter called for concentration, given the huge cushion of eleven points in the table.

Championship decided? Kane and Kimmich disagree

“I don’t think it’s over. We had an eleven-point lead a few weeks ago and have seen how quickly that can change with two results. We have to stay focused,” he warned and added: “It’s easy to motivate yourself for these games. But you also have to be focused for the remaining games.”

Not all of his teammates will see it the same way. At least Kimmich, who scored the winning goal, said: “Now we have an 11-point lead. We won’t give that up again.” Kane shouldn’t care. He will continue to hunt for goals.
